9. How receptive are clubs to new members?

Since most people are genuinely terrified of public speaking, Toastmasters clubs find recruiting members a challenge. There's little chance that any club will fail to welcome you enthusiastically as its guest and invite you join immediately. The members wish to make you feel at home in their club.

Occasionally, however, people get into bad situations, and the same is true of any organization. There are rude people everywhere. Toastmasters clubs probably have their share. For this reason, the author of this FAQ recommends that you visit all the Toastmasters clubs in your area before deciding which one to join.

If a club you visit has rude members, please don't assume that this is true of the entire organization. Occasionally, people forget they're part of a larger organization and act as if the vision and mission of Toastmasters doesn't concern them. Please nod, leave, and visit some other club. These clubs are definitely the exception; however we cannot deny that these clubs exist.
