Your $18.00 semiannual dues go to World Headquarters and partly pay for your subscription to The Toastmaster, an excellent magazine. Also, that amount partly pays to support the development of new educational programs, including some nice new programs coming out these days, to support operations at World Headquarters (i.e. the staff members who process membership applications, CTM applications, new club applications, etc.), and partly to support your local District organization.
Furthermore, when you finish your CTM, you get two Advanced project manuals without extra charge to work toward your Advanced Toastmaster award.
Dues haven't risen for a long time and should not rise again for a long time. The last increase had much do with rising printing costs.
Your club dues generally pay for the club's supplies, such as ballots, awards, ribbons, and educational materials. In some cases, your dues may go to pay for meals eaten at the meetings.
