Toastmasters Awards FAQ
The Toastmasters Leadership Excellence award is granted to club members who follow a five-part leadership action program and select a special project which provides them with leadership roles. The leadership action program manual is called High Performance Leadership (Toastmasters International Supply Catalogue Item Number 262).
The High Performance Leadership program manual offers instruction and practice in such vital leadership skills and activities as developing a mission and vision, goal-setting and planning, identifying values, and building a team.
The special project you might choose for your leadership role could be taking on a project while serving as a club or district officer or chairman. In business you could develop a leadership project related to the needs of your organization. Other possible projects include ones for your community, place of worship, an association or professional group, or some other organization. Your project may be almost anything, provided it is legal, ethical, and socially responsible. Also, Toastmasters International neither approves nor disapproves any member's Leadership Excellence project, and your project activities must not be represented as being endorsed by Toastmasters International.
Only current members of Toastmasters International clubs are eligible the Leadership Excellence award. Once you conclude your special project, complete the Leadership Excellence award application in the High Performance Leadership program manual, get the application signed by the members of your guidance committee and your club's Vice President Education (or by any other club officer excluding the Sergeant At Arms if you are the current Vice President Education), and send it to Toastmasters International. Toastmasters International will send you your Leadership Excellence certificate and at your request a letter of commendation to your employer.
You do not need to have earned the CTM or other educational award to apply for the Leadership Excellence award. You may start working on it at any stage of your development in Toastmasters prior to earning the Advanced Leader award, for which this is a prerequisite.
